Plainly: the gastro directory is an inventory of places, not a guidebook. The points below are reproduced verbatim from the dataset's caveats — they are the boundary of an inventory, not a defect.

  • Dataset provides only: name, category (cat), subcategory (sub/subEn), partnership flag, optional url, lat/lon, optional district. No opening dates, no prices, no ratings/reviews, no employee counts, no seating capacity, no opening hours, no cuisine type beyond the coarse sub label, no contact phone/email, no menu data.
  • Subcategories are coarse English buckets (Restaurant, Cafe, Fast Food, Pub, Bar, Bakery, Ice Cream, Delicatessen) — local Austrian terms such as Heuriger, Buschenschank, Beisl, Gasthaus, Wirtshaus, Kaffeehaus, Konditorei, Bäckerei do not appear as distinct sub values and are folded into the English buckets, so style/typology cannot be inferred from sub alone.
  • The 'Pub' sub label contains visible misclassifications (entries such as 'Bücherbox', 'Bücherzelle', 'Mini Bücher Box', 'Kinderkrippe Gössendorf', 'Augartenbad' are book-share boxes, a daycare and a public bath, not pubs) — counts in Pub overstate true pub presence and need cleaning before downstream use.

Methodology

How these counts were derived

Counts are derived from the Localinar entity database for Graz as of 2026-06-28. The snapshot used here is the Localinar dataset (version 1.0, 2026-06-28), containing 7,017 entities. Subtype labels come from our standardised taxonomy.

  • Each entity carries a name, a top-level category (cat), a subcategory (sub) with its English mirror (subEn), a partnership flag, and lat/lon. url and district are partial.
  • Subtype counts are derived by string-matching keywords against the subtype labels — e.g. the Bakery count of 61 matches the keyword "bakery". This means a venue tagged "Cafe" that also bakes on premises would not appear in the Bakery card here.
  • Top-level Food & Hospitality totals 1,355 in Graz; the gastro layer reported here is 1232 of those (1,227 under Food & Hospitality plus 5 keyword matches sitting under Commercial & Retail). The remainder of Food & Hospitality includes records that do not match any gastro keyword (for example hotels or catering operations).
  • The district label applies to about 95.8% of city records and is missing on roughly 4.2%. Records around the bounding-box edges sit in adjacent municipalities (Gössendorf, Pirka, Thal) and are still part of the gastro layer.

Why don't you show ratings or prices?
Because the dataset does not contain them. There are no review counts, star ratings, popularity scores, price tiers or average-bill figures attached to any entry. Adding such labels would be a fabrication.
Why are there only 8 subtypes for a city this size?
Subtypes are coarse English buckets (Restaurant, Cafe, Fast Food, Pub, Bar, Bakery, Ice Cream, Delicatessen). Local Austrian terms like Heuriger, Buschenschank, Beisl, Gasthaus, Wirtshaus, Kaffeehaus, Konditorei and Bäckerei do not exist as distinct sub values — they are folded into the English buckets, so style or typology cannot be inferred from the sub label alone.
